A new slang term, “No Diddy,” has gone viral on social media, replacing the previously popular phrase “No Homo.” The term originated from rapper Sean Combs’ involvement in multiple lawsuits related to sexual misconduct.
Fans first noticed the “No Diddy” slang during DJ Akademiks’ interview with Philadelphia rapper Quilly on his Off the Record podcast, which aired on March 19, 2024. Throughout the interview, Quilly used the phrase “No Diddy” multiple times. On March 20, producer BNYX utilized the term in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “I put all my guys in positions. no diddy.”
The most recent lawsuit against Combs, filed by producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, accuses the Bad Boy Records founder of sexual assault, harassment, and unpaid work. Jones alleges being groped and touched by Diddy on several occasions and claimed he was instructed to pick up sex workers for the rapper. Combs has vehemently denied the allegations in Jones’ lawsuit.
Hip-hop artist 50 Cent, known for his tendency to troll Diddy, took to Instagram on March 23 to endorse the term “No Diddy.” In his post, 50 Cent shared an image of a blog post discussing the replacement of “No Homo” with “No Diddy,” writing in the caption, “Oh, I fk wit son that’s my man No Diddy. I’ll Boom you right Now! Fk outta here! LOL.”
The phrase “no homo” is used to deny any queer identity or intention by an individual who said or did something that they feel could be interpreted as gay. Others who witnessed the allegedly queer or queer-adjacent action may say “pause” directly after it was performed to give the actor a chance to say “no homo.”
However, the slang term “no homo” has faced criticism for many years for suggesting that homosexuality is so terrible that it must be immediately disavowed if the notion even enters the room. People are now criticizing “no Diddy” for the same reason.
Additionally, “no Diddy” has come under fire for turning the focus away from the much more serious accusations against Combs. Many social media users have pointed out that the problem with the rapper’s behavior is not that he did anything gay, but that he allegedly engaged in a sex trafficking and extortion operation and regularly drugged, sexually assaulted, groomed, and raped both adults and minors.
Despite the controversy surrounding the term, its popularity continues to grow on social media platforms, with videos of people reacting to someone saying “no Diddy” instead of “no homo” going viral on TikTok.
