Bangladeshi cricket star Shakib Al Hasan is set to play for Surrey in the County Championship, participating in a match against Somerset from September 9 to 12 in Taunton. This comes before he joins Bangladesh’s national team for their tour of India. Despite being named in a murder case in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play.

Shakib is among 147 individuals named in a First Information Report (FIR) related to a murder during protests in Bangladesh. At the time of the incident, Shakib was playing in the Global T20 Canada. The BCB has allowed him to continue playing, emphasizing that the investigation is in its early stages. BCB President Faruque Ahmed stated, “He will continue playing. We received a legal notice regarding bringing him back, and we replied to them saying this.”

Bangladesh’s Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs adviser, Asif Nazrul, expressed confidence that Shakib would not be arrested, noting, “Filing a case does not mean an arrest. I hope Shakib will not be arrested.”

After the county match, Shakib will travel to Chennai for Bangladesh’s series against India, starting with a Test match on September 19. His participation in the Surrey match is aimed at helping him regain form in red-ball cricket.

Despite the legal challenges, Shakib’s cricketing commitments remain intact, with the BCB providing full support. His recent performance in the Test series against Pakistan, where he took three crucial wickets, highlights his ongoing importance to the team.
