Gaan Bangla Television, a prominent music channel in Bangladesh, has had its broadcast suspended due to unpaid satellite fees, as confirmed by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL). The suspension took effect at 12 PM on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The decision was made after Gaan Bangla failed to settle outstanding dues amounting to BDT 1,60,32,000, despite repeated reminders and formal notices from BSCL.

Shah Ahmedul Kabir, the General Manager of the Sales and Marketing Department at BSCL, stated that the channel has consistently exceeded the agreed timeline for payments. He explained that while minimal payments were made by the channel, they were insufficient to cover the substantial debt. Kabir emphasized that the broadcast would be reinstated once the dues are cleared.

The situation is further complicated by communication issues with Gaan Bangla’s management. Kabir noted that neither Kaushik Hossain Taposh, the Managing Director, nor his wife, Chairperson Farzana Munny, have been in contact with BSCL. Instead, all communications have been handled by Taposh’s father, Delwar Hossain Raja. During a conversation on Tuesday, Raja was informed about the financial obligations and the necessity to resolve them to resume broadcasting.

Gaan Bangla Television is known for its unique contributions to the music industry in Bangladesh, often showcasing diverse musical talents and cultural programs. The suspension of its broadcast marks a significant disruption in its operations and impacts its audience base.

This development highlights the critical importance of financial management and communication within media organizations to maintain operations and fulfill contractual obligations. As stakeholders await resolution, the focus remains on whether Gaan Bangla will manage to settle its debts and resume its broadcast services soon.
