A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy, former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team and ex-Awami League lawmaker from Manikganj-1, along with his wife, Farhana Rahman, amid serious corruption allegations. The order, delivered by Judge Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court, follows an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Md Abul Hasnat, who leads the investigation into the couple.
The ACC’s application outlines allegations against Durjoy, including money laundering, project irregularities, and amassing substantial wealth both domestically and abroad through illicit means. The investigation is ongoing, and the ACC argued that a travel ban is essential to prevent the couple from leaving the country, which could obstruct the inquiry.
The court was informed that Durjoy allegedly misappropriated government funds through corruption, abuse of power, recruitment irregularities, and acquiring wealth beyond his known income in both his name and those of his family members. The ACC expressed concern that the couple could flee the country at any moment, potentially jeopardizing the investigation.
In response to these concerns, Judge Hossain directed the ACC to forward the travel ban order to the Special Branch of Immigration Police for necessary action. This move aims to ensure that Durjoy and his wife remain within Bangladesh’s jurisdiction as the investigation proceeds.
