The victims were identified as members of two families who had embarked on a trip from Dhaka to Kuakata. The deceased include Motaleb Hossain, 45, his wife Sabina Akhtar, 30, their daughter Mukta, 12, and son Shoaib, 2. Also perished were Shaon Mridha, 32, his wife Amena Begum, 29, and their sons Shahadat, 10, and Abdullah, 3. According to relatives, the families were en route to Shaon’s ancestral home in Hoglabunia village when the accident occurred.
Md Mukit Hassan Khan, the additional superintendent of police for Pirojpur district, reported that the vehicle veered out of control around 3:00 AM and crashed into the canal. Despite prompt rescue efforts by local residents and emergency services, all eight occupants were declared dead upon arrival at Pirojpur District Hospital. Dr. Asif Hossain confirmed that the victims had succumbed to their injuries before reaching medical facilities.
The accident has highlighted concerns about road safety in the region. Talha Bin Zasim from the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters confirmed that emergency responders were alerted by locals at approximately 2:15 AM. Two fire engines were dispatched to assist with the rescue operations.
