Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus inaugurated the 29th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) today at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal, marking the beginning of Bangladesh’s largest product exhibition for 2025.
During his inaugural speech, Dr. Yunus made a bold announcement to support youth entrepreneurship across Bangladesh. “Select two-three youths through competition in each upazila and send them to the fair,” he declared, emphasizing that the government would facilitate their participation.
The Chief Adviser highlighted the diverse achievements of rural youth in various sectors. “Not only nationally they are doing business internationally. Staying at home, youths are even selling software internationally,” he noted, underlining their potential to become global entrepreneurs.
The month-long fair features 362 stalls and pavilions, with 351 representing domestic companies and 11 showcasing products from seven different countries. The exhibition center offers modern amenities, including a two-layer parking facility for 500 cars and additional parking space on 6 acres of land.
Dr. Yunus urged the business community to strengthen Bangladesh’s export base, particularly emphasizing investment in the services sector. “We need to enhance our exports. I urge all businesspeople to come forward to invest more in the services sector in addition to products to boost our exports,” he stated.
Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin joined the inauguration ceremony, after which the Chief Adviser toured various stalls and enjoyed cultural performances. The fair will remain open daily from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm, with extended hours until 10:00 pm on weekends throughout January.
The DITF, organized by the Export Promotion Bureau and the Ministry of Commerce, has been a significant annual event since its inception in 1995, serving as a platform for both local and international businesses to showcase their products and forge new trade relationships.
