TikTok, the popular video-sharing platform, has made a significant contribution to flood relief efforts in Bangladesh. The company has donated Tk 1.2 crore (USD 100,000) to support flood response and rehabilitation initiatives in the country. This funding will be channeled through BRAC, a leading development organization in Bangladesh.

The recent floods in eastern Bangladesh have affected nearly 5.8 million people, causing widespread devastation. BRAC will utilize the funds to address critical needs in flood-affected regions, including:

  • Repairing and rehabilitating water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities
  • Providing emergency health and nutrition services
  • Restoring livelihoods
  • Repairing houses
  • Supplying agricultural inputs and cattle feed

In addition to the immediate flood relief, TikTok has made a further commitment of Tk 6 crore (USD 500,000) to support young entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. This initiative aims to develop climate-resilient businesses, with a focus on those owned by women and persons with disabilities. The program will train youth entrepreneurs in environmentally sustainable business practices and help them leverage green opportunities.

Ferdous Mottakin, TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, stated: “At TikTok, we’re committed to supporting communities in Bangladesh during times of crisis and beyond. Our partnership with BRAC enables us to provide immediate flood relief and while investing in the future by empowering youth through climate-resilient entrepreneurship. Together, we are building a more sustainable future for those affected by these challenges.”

BRAC has been actively involved in flood relief efforts, allocating over Tk 8 crore from its own resources and staff contributions. As of September 11, the organization has reached 117,000 families with emergency relief, including food, drinking water, and essential medicines. BRAC has deployed 5,000 staff members to work around the clock in hard-to-reach and underserved areas.

This partnership between TikTok and BRAC highlights the importance of international cooperation in disaster response and demonstrates a commitment to the long-term recovery and resilience of flood-affected communities across Bangladesh.
