Two key arrests have been made in Dhaka following the high-profile murder of Manzurul Islam Babu, also known as “Blade Babu,” and a separate operation targeting criminal activities in the city. These developments underscore ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat violent crime and gang-related activities in the capital.
On Sunday, January 25, 2025, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch apprehended Rabbi, alias “Kutta Rabbi,” aged 18, one of the main suspects in the murder of Blade Babu. The arrest was made during a late-night operation in Pallabi. Blade Babu, an alleged local gangster, was fatally stabbed on January 20 near Bangabandhu College in Mirpur Section-12. The attack reportedly stemmed from disputes over territorial dominance and prior enmity. Despite being rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to Kurmitola General Hospital, Babu succumbed to his injuries.
The victim’s wife, Rabeya Akter Mim, filed a murder case at Pallabi Police Station on January 21. Utilizing CCTV footage and technological tools, detectives swiftly identified and apprehended suspects involved in the attack. Prior to Rabbi’s arrest, two other suspects, Tufan and Murad, were detained earlier in the investigation. With Rabbi now in custody, three individuals connected to the murder have been arrested.
In a separate operation on the same night, Badda police arrested two individuals—Sagar Hossain, alias “Beji Sagar,” aged 25, and Roni Biswas, aged 23—on charges of robbery and drug-related crimes. The arrests occurred around 1:15 AM in Anandnagar’s Chabbish Colony area after police received intelligence about a group armed with weapons gathering near a grocery store for a potential robbery. While several suspects fled the scene upon noticing police presence, Sagar and Roni were apprehended with knives in their possession.
Authorities revealed that both detainees are known criminals with extensive records. Sagar Hossain faces nine cases across multiple police stations for theft, robbery, and drug offenses. Similarly, Roni Biswas has four drug-related cases filed against him at Badda Police Station. Officials confirmed that both individuals are part of a network involved in drug trafficking and robberies across Dhaka’s Badda area.
Law enforcement has stated that legal proceedings against all arrested individuals are underway. Investigations continue to identify accomplices and further dismantle criminal networks operating within the city.
These arrests highlight the ongoing challenges posed by organized crime in Dhaka while demonstrating law enforcement’s commitment to addressing such threats through coordinated operations and swift action.
