An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped while visiting her sister’s house in Magura town, according to local police. The incident occurred yesterday, and the child is currently undergoing treatment at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police have detained the victim’s brother-in-law and his father for questioning in connection with the incident.
The girl, who resides with her parents in a village in Magura’s Sreepur, had traveled to Magura district town a few days ago to visit her elder sister’s family. Her sister reported that she found the girl lying unconscious on the floor upon returning home around noon yesterday. Initially, the child was taken to the 250-bed Sadar Hospital in Magura, but as her condition worsened, she was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced care.
Preliminary medical examinations suggest that the girl may have been a victim of both rape and attempted murder. Subash Ranjan Halder, a doctor in the emergency unit of Magura Sadar Hospital, noted extensive bleeding from her private parts and injury marks on her neck, indicating an attempt to strangle her. Additionally, there were scratches on several parts of her body.
Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ayub Ali confirmed that two individuals, the victim’s sister’s husband and his father, were detained from the house for questioning. Professor Dr Md Shamidur Rahman, head of the Pediatric Surgery Unit at DMCH, stated that the child’s condition is currently stable, but more details will be available tomorrow.
Local residents held a protest march in Magura town, condemning the incident and demanding strict punishment for the perpetrator. The victim’s mother alleged that someone found her daughter alone at her sister’s house and committed the crime. The case is under investigation, with police working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
