Police have filed a case against 12 named individuals and 70-80 unnamed people following a clash during an anti-rape march in Dhaka on Tuesday. The incident occurred near the InterContinental hotel, where protesters were en route to submit a memorandum to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus as part of their ongoing demonstrations against sexual violence.

Sub-Inspector Abdul Khair lodged the case today at Ramna Police Station, accusing the individuals of attacking police officers and obstructing them from performing their duties. Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Faruque confirmed the allegations, stating, “Allegations of attacking police and preventing them from doing their work have been brought against the accused.”

The named individuals include prominent student leaders such as Sumaiya Shahina, president of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (Eden Mohila College unit), Meghmallar Bosu, president of Chhatra Federation (Dhaka University unit), and Shaikat Arif, general secretary of Chhatra Federation. Others listed in the case are members of organizations like Chhatra Union, Chhatra Federation, and Ganatrantrik Chhatra Council.

The clash reportedly began around 3:20 p.m. when protesters, marching from Shahbagh toward the State Guest House Jamuna—Chief Adviser Yunus’s official residence—were stopped by police at an intersection near the hotel. According to Ramna Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Tariqul Islam, “When the police stopped them at the intersection, the protesters clashed with the police,” resulting in injuries to several officers.

The anti-rape march is part of broader protests demanding justice and action against sexual violence. The incident highlights growing tensions between law enforcement and activist groups in Bangladesh’s capital. Further investigations into the case are underway.
