Renowned actor Abul Hayat, at the age of 80, has taken on a new artistic challenge by lending his voice to animator Antik Mahmud’s latest project. With over 50 years of experience in film and television, Hayat shows no signs of slowing down and continues to embrace new roles.
Antik Mahmud, known for collaborating with young celebrities like Pritom Hasan and Chirkutt, had long dreamed of working with Abul Hayat and Dilara Zaman, both of whom played a significant role in his childhood. “I used to watch their dramas on TV with my mom. They evoke such nostalgia for that period of my life,” Antik shared.
It took Antik seven years to gather the courage to ask Abul Hayat to voice a character in his animated project. Initially, the actor teased the animator by asking, “Tomra Bangla ebhabe bolo keno?” (Why do you speak Bengali like this?), causing Antik to fear he had lost the opportunity. However, to his surprise, Hayat agreed to the role and enthusiastically recorded the voiceover.
Antik believes that the cartoon itself may have intrigued the actor, as Hayat’s daughter Bipasha Hayat is a painter, and his son-in-law Tauquir Ahmed is an architect. During the voiceover sessions, Antik realized the precision and perfection of Hayat’s delivery, understanding the actor’s comment on Bengali pronunciation.
In the yet-to-be-titled project, Abul Hayat voices an antagonist, portraying a king who has lost his son and is determined to bring him back through his magical powers. The video will feature Antik’s signature comedic style, with touches of fantasy and deeper messages.
Antik has shared behind-the-scenes clips and photos of his collaboration with the actor on social media, expressing his admiration for Hayat’s mesmerizing and satisfying performance. “I can’t put into words how mesmerising and satisfying his performance was. It was an incredible experience working with such a remarkable actor. I will treasure this memory for life,” the cartoonist concluded.
The recording for the animated project has been completed, and fans eagerly await the release of this unique collaboration between the legendary actor and the popular animator.
