The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (CJM) Court in Dhaka issued the arrest warrant on Sunday, January 26, 2025, after Pori Moni failed to appear for an indictment hearing. Her lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat, had sought additional time for the hearing, but the court rejected the plea and proceeded to frame charges against the actress. Alongside Pori Moni, her costume designer, Junaid Baghdadi Jimmy, also faces charges and an arrest warrant in connection with the same case.
The origins of the case date back to June 8, 2021, when Nasir Uddin Mahmood alleged that Pori Moni and her associates entered the Dhaka Boat Club in Savar, consumed alcohol, and later demanded a free bottle of Blue Label whiskey. When Mahmood refused, Pori Moni allegedly verbally abused him and threw a glass at him, causing injuries to his head and chest. The businessman subsequently filed a complaint on July 18, 2022, accusing Pori Moni and her associates of assault and attempted murder.
Investigations by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) corroborated parts of Mahmood’s allegations. The PBI’s report indicated evidence supporting claims that Pori Moni threw a glass at Mahmood and that her costume designer assaulted him. The findings led to the acceptance of the report by the CJM Court in April 2024 and subsequent legal proceedings.
However, this case is not without complexity. On June 8, 2021—the same night as the alleged incident—Pori Moni filed a counter-case against Nasir Uddin Mahmood and five others at Savar Police Station. She accused them of attempted rape and murder at the Dhaka Boat Club. Following investigations, police submitted a charge sheet implicating Mahmood and three others in September 2022. This case is currently in its evidence stage at Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9.
