Health Ministry Bans Drug Company Representatives From Hospital Entry

TL;DR:

  • The Health Ministry has banned pharmaceutical company representatives from entering all hospitals nationwide as part of new healthcare improvement directives.
  • All injured individuals from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement will receive free treatment at both government and private hospitals, with the government covering medication costs.
  • A new visitor management system requiring visitor cards has been implemented, and hospitals must establish reception desks for systematic patient routing.
  • Thirteen designated hospitals in Dhaka, including DMCH and CMH, are specifically assigned to treat movement victims with priority care.

The Ministry of Health has issued a comprehensive set of 10 directives to enhance healthcare services and ensure proper treatment for those injured during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. A key directive notably prohibits pharmaceutical company representatives from entering hospitals.

The directives, signed by Health Services Division Deputy Secretary Umme Habiba on November 18, have been dispatched to all hospitals across the country. The ministry has warned of strict legal consequences for non-compliance with these directives.

Key measures outlined in the directive include free treatment for all injured individuals at both government and private hospitals. For patients receiving treatment at private hospitals who cannot afford medication costs, the government will cover these expenses upon submission and verification of appropriate bills and vouchers to the Health Directorate.

The ministry has also introduced a new visitor management system requiring all hospital visitors to carry visitor cards. No one will be permitted to enter patient rooms or hospital premises without these cards. Additionally, the directive mandates the establishment of reception desks at all hospitals to ensure systematic healthcare delivery and proper patient routing based on medical conditions.

For cases requiring advanced treatment abroad, the directive establishes a process where patients can apply to the Health Services Division with necessary documentation and medical board recommendations.

To modernize hospital operations, the ministry has called for the implementation of digital ticketing systems where feasible. The directive also emphasizes that only registered and certified medical professionals will be allowed to provide treatment at hospitals.

These measures come as government hospitals across the country continue to provide free treatment to students and civilians injured during the recent mass movement. Thirteen designated hospitals in Dhaka, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Combined Military Hospital, have been specifically tasked with treating these patients.

The interim government has further announced plans to issue unique ID cards to July uprising victims, ensuring their access to priority medical treatment for life.
