The flood situation in Jamalpur and Netrakona districts is expected to worsen in the next 24 hours, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center. Meanwhile, the situation in Mymensingh and Sherpur is likely to remain stable. This update was provided by the Water Development Board at 11:30 am on Sunday.
Several areas in Greater Mymensingh and the northern region have been inundated due to monsoon rains and upstream hill slopes, increasing the suffering of local residents. Sardar Uday Raihan, Executive Engineer of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, confirmed that rising water levels in rivers such as Kansa, Jinjiram, Someshwari, and Old Brahmaputra are contributing to the situation.
The report indicates that heavy rain is expected to decrease over the next three days in the Mymensingh division and upstream areas. Consequently, water levels in some rivers may decrease, stabilizing the flood situation in the Sherpur and Mymensingh districts. However, low-lying areas near the Jinjiram River in Jamalpur might experience worsening conditions.
In Netrakona, rivers like Kangsa and Someshwari may overflow into low-lying areas within 24 hours. Despite these challenges, water levels are predicted to drop below danger levels in the coming days, potentially improving conditions.
Additionally, river waters in Rangpur Division are rising but remain below critical levels. The Surma and Kushiara rivers in Sylhet are also stable with no immediate threat of severe flooding. The overall forecast suggests a gradual improvement in flood conditions across affected regions.
