  • Parvez claimed he entered the hall with a female student friend after attending the Him Utsab festival, citing no place to stay.
  • The incident sparked protests on campus, with students demanding stricter security for female dormitories.
  • University authorities are investigating the breach using CCTV footage and have promised disciplinary action against those involved.

Jahangirnagar University’s Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, a residential dormitory for female students, when an outsider disguised as a woman was detained by the hall’s residents. The individual, identified as Ashraful Alam Parvez, also known as “Jajabor Parvez,” aged 31, was later handed over to the police.

Parvez, a resident of Gazipur originally from Double Mooring in Chattogram, reportedly entered the university campus to attend the “Him Utsab” cultural festival. According to his statement, he was invited by a female student of the university with whom he claimed to share a seven-year friendship. Parvez stated that he had no place to stay for the night and was brought into the hall by his friend. To avoid detection, he entered the hall wearing a sari, a bindi on his forehead, and a shawl covering his face and body.

Eyewitnesses reported that Parvez entered Nawab Faizunnesa Hall with the female student after attending the festival. Suspicion arose when he removed his shawl inside a third-floor room, prompting nearby residents to confront him. Angered by the security breach, students detained him and dressed him in traditional women’s attire before physically assaulting him. The incident sparked widespread unrest on campus, leading to a midnight protest march by students demanding stricter security measures for female dormitories.

The female student involved defended her actions, stating, “We are good friends and were not in any compromising situation. I brought him into the hall because he had nowhere to stay.” However, her claims were contradicted when her husband denied knowing Parvez during a phone inquiry.

Dr. Jahangir Alam, Provost of Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, confirmed his immediate intervention upon receiving reports of the incident. He stated that both individuals were handed over to Jahangirnagar University’s proctorial body for further investigation. “CCTV footage will be reviewed to determine the full scope of events,” said Dr. Alam. Proctor Professor A.K.M. Rashidul Alam assured that legal action would be taken against those responsible for breaching university regulations.

Parvez claimed during questioning that he and his friend were devotees of Lalon Shah and had bonded over shared interests in cultural activities. He also mentioned plans to marry her, although this assertion remains unverified.

The incident has raised serious concerns about campus security and unauthorized access to female dormitories at Jahangirnagar University. Students have demanded stricter enforcement of entry protocols and accountability for those involved in facilitating such breaches. University authorities have pledged a thorough investigation and appropriate disciplinary measures to prevent future occurrences of similar incidents.
