OpenAI CEO Sam Altman faces serious allegations as his sister, Ann Altman, filed a lawsuit Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, accusing him of prolonged sexual abuse spanning nearly a decade.

The lawsuit details disturbing allegations of abuse that reportedly occurred at the family’s home in Clayton, Missouri, between 1997 and 2006. Ann Altman, now 30, claims the abuse began when she was three years old and her brother was twelve, continuing until she was a minor and he had reached adulthood.

The legal filing alleges that the abuse took place “several times per week,” involving escalating sexual acts. Ann claims these experiences have resulted in “severe emotional distress, mental anguish, and depression” that continue to affect her today.

Sam Altman, 39, alongside his mother Connie and brothers Max and Jack, issued a joint statement on January 7 through X (formerly Twitter), categorically denying the accusations. The family statement reads: “Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her well-being. Caring for a family member who faces mental health challenges is incredibly difficult.”

The family’s response emphasizes their previous efforts to support Ann, including financial assistance with bills, rent, medical expenses, and job opportunities. They assert that Ann has made various allegations against family members over time, claiming she has “continued to demand more money” while making what they describe as “deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims.”

While Ann has previously made similar accusations on social media platforms, this marks her first legal action against her brother. The lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $75,000 and requests a jury trial.

Sam Altman has gained prominence in the technology sector as the leader of OpenAI, particularly following the successful launch of ChatGPT in late 2022. The artificial intelligence chatbot’s release sparked widespread interest in AI technology and established OpenAI as a leading force in the field.

The case has drawn significant attention given Altman’s high-profile position in the tech industry and the serious nature of the allegations. The court proceedings will take place in Missouri, where the alleged incidents occurred.
