The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has announced plans for a groundbreaking 3D drone light show featuring 2,500 drones to commemorate the July uprising, scheduled for February 19, 2025, at the National Parliament complex in Dhaka.
The spectacular event, part of the Youth Festival 2025, will combine aerial choreography with music to recreate iconic moments from Bangladesh’s history. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is expected to attend this landmark celebration.
The initiative, which also marks the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-China diplomatic relations, came following a courtesy meeting between Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and the Chinese ambassador on December 9, where China pledged its support for the project.
Md Mukhlesur Rahman Akand, joint secretary at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, revealed that while the final costs are pending, the Chinese-sourced drones are estimated at $500,000. Bangladesh will primarily handle the storage and charging expenses for the drones.
The ministry has established a committee to determine the total expenditure and is currently awaiting security clearance from various intelligence agencies regarding the venue selection. “Feedback has been sought from various intelligence agencies regarding the security of the venue before finalizing the location,” Akand stated.
The project’s execution involves significant international collaboration. A five-member Chinese delegation will arrive on January 16 for venue inspection, followed by a 17-member technical team visiting between February 16-21 to manage the event’s technical aspects.
The Bangladesh government will provide comprehensive support, including accommodation, catering, transportation, and fuel costs for the Chinese teams. Additionally, a 15-member Bangladeshi technical assistant team will support the preparations.
This innovative celebration represents a significant advancement in Bangladesh’s event technology capabilities, combining cultural commemoration with cutting-edge drone technology. The show promises to offer an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional displays while creating a memorable spectacle for attendees.
The decision for this unprecedented display was finalized during an inter-ministerial meeting on December 19, with the ministry subsequently requesting foreign assistance through the Economic Relations Division on December 23.
