Singer Moni Kishore Found Dead in Rampura Home, Police Suspect Several Days Passed

The body of renowned singer Moni Kishore was discovered in his rented flat located behind the BTV building in the Rampura area of Dhaka on the evening of October 19, 2024. Police recovered the decomposing body around 10:30 pm after being alerted by the landlord, who had been trying to collect rent.

According to Ataur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station, “Moni lived alone in that house. The door was locked from the inside. The landlord, upon trying to collect the rent today, rang the doorbell several times without a response.” The landlord also noticed a foul smell emanating from the flat, which raised suspicions and prompted him to call the national emergency service number 999.

Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene, broke open the door, and recovered Moni Kishore’s body. The exact time and cause of death will be determined after an autopsy, as the body had already started to decompose by the time it was found.

A Celebrated Career in Music

Moni Kishore, a popular singer from the 90s, had sung over 500 songs throughout his career. Some of his most well-known tracks include ‘Ki Chile Amar Bolona Tumi,’ ‘Ami More Gele,’ ‘Phool Jhore Tara Jhore,’ ‘Mukhe Bolo Valobashi,’ and ‘Ami Gharer Khoje.’ Despite releasing his last album nearly a decade ago, Moni Kishore continued to perform occasionally on radio and television, and participated in stage shows from time to time.
