The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations in Bangladesh have concluded, with a total pass rate of 77.78 percent. Out of the 13,31,058 students who appeared for the exams this year, 10,35,309 successfully passed.

The nine general education boards recorded a pass rate of 75.56 percent, while the madrasa and technical boards achieved pass rates of 93.40 percent and 88.09 percent, respectively. Notably, the number of students earning a perfect GPA-5 score saw a significant increase, with 1,45,911 students achieving this feat compared to 92,595 last year.

Among the individual boards, Sylhet secured the highest passing rate at 85.38 percent, followed by Barishal at 81.85 percent, Rajshahi at 81.24 percent, and Dhaka at 79.21 percent. Dinajpur, Cumilla, Chattogram, Jashore, and Mymensingh recorded pass rates of 77.56 percent, 71.15 percent, 70.32 percent, 64.29 percent, and 63.22 percent, respectively.

The combined pass rate across the nine education boards saw a slight dip of 0.86 percent compared to the previous year, with the 2023 pass rate standing at 78.64 percent. Despite this marginal decrease, the overall performance remains commendable, considering the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic.

To accommodate the growing number of students, the exam centers increased from 2,657 in 2023 to 2,695 in 2024. Similarly, the total number of participating institutions rose from 9,187 to 9,197 during the same period.

Education experts attribute the improved performance in the HSC exams to students’ better understanding of the revised curriculum and their ability to adapt to the new examination format. The increase in GPA-5 achievers is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers.

As students celebrate their achievements, the focus now shifts to the future, with many aspiring to pursue higher education or enter the workforce. The government and educational institutions are expected to provide the necessary support and guidance to help these young minds navigate their chosen paths successfully.
