Bangladesh has made a remarkable showing at the World Invention Competition and Exhibition (WICE) 2024, with four teams winning gold medals in the prestigious international science competition. The event, held from September 21 to 25, 2024, at MAHSA University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, saw participation from 15 countries including Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, UAE, and the US.
Three Bangladeshi teams – Team Atlas, Team Code Black, and Calibrator-Z – secured gold medals in the ‘IT & Robotics – University’ category, while Team Dreams of Bangladesh clinched gold in the ‘IT & Robotics – Senior High School’ category. The competition featured five categories: Applied Life Sciences, Innovative Social Sciences, Applied Physics and Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and IT and Robotics. Gold medals were awarded to teams scoring above 80% in their respective categories.
The winning teams comprised students from various educational institutions across Bangladesh. Team Atlas, led by Sunny Jubayer from Brac University, included members from multiple universities and schools. Team Code Black, notably the first female robotics team from Bangladesh, consisted of students primarily from Brac University and other institutions.
Calibrator-Z brought together students from several colleges, while Team Dreams of Bangladesh represented a mix of high school and university students from across the country.
The teams faced significant challenges in their journey to success. Abdullah Ibnah Hasan from Team Calibrator-Z highlighted the technical difficulties they encountered, stating, “It was challenging crafting the hardware and circuitry required meticulous attention to detail for optimal operation.”
Team Code Black emphasized the importance of their achievement in breaking gender barriers in the field of robotics. They expressed, “We believe innovation knows no gender,” and hope to inspire the next generation of female innovators in Bangladesh.
Sunny Jubayer, leader of Team Atlas, shared his aspirations for the future impact of their success, hoping that these awards would inspire others to believe in their potential.
This impressive performance by Bangladeshi teams at WICE 2024 not only showcases the country’s growing prowess in technology and innovation but also highlights the potential of its young minds on the global stage.
