The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced plans to conduct special operations during Ramadan to maintain law and order and ensure public safety. The initiative was revealed by DB chief and Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik during a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road earlier today.
“DB personnel will go undercover to apprehend criminals,” Mallik stated, emphasizing the department’s commitment to addressing criminal activities during the holy month. He explained that alongside routine operations, DB will launch intelligence-based special drives to prevent theft, robbery, and other offenses.
Mallik highlighted that Ramadan typically sees heightened economic activity, with increased financial transactions at banks, insurance companies, and other institutions. Transportation hubs such as railway stations, bus terminals, and launch terminals also experience larger crowds. “To ensure that no sabotage occurs in these places, we have intensified our intelligence surveillance,” he said.
The DB chief also noted that intelligence monitoring has been ramped up to safeguard long-distance travelers. According to reports, many individuals involved in thefts and robberies are between the ages of 15 and 20, with some linked to teen gangs allegedly incited by a “fascist political party.”
Joint forces, including the military, are collaborating with DB to improve law and order across the city. “The law and order situation is gradually improving, and we hope all will see better conditions soon,” Mallik assured.
He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or individuals impersonating DB personnel in plainclothes. “If anyone is picked up or detained by individuals claiming to be DB officers, please inform us immediately,” he said, adding that informants’ identities would remain confidential.
The announcement underscores DB’s proactive approach to ensuring public safety during Ramadan, a time of increased activity across Dhaka.
